CONEBI’s 2016 Data Shows 22% Increase In e-bike Sales.
The annual report from the Confederation of the European Bicycle Industry (CONEBI) uses manufacturing and sales data to compare the performance of cycling markets in different European countries.
Just under 20 million bicycles were sold across Europe and that’s 22% up on the previous year. Leading the way was Germany with 21% of sales followed by Britain with 16%. When it comes to electric bikes 1.6m were sold across the continent but Britain only accounted for about 5% of sales putting us back in 7th place.
Overall production of e-bikes across Europe increased by 13% year on year but imports from the Far East was up from 665,000 in 2015 to 1m.
Although the this is normal practice in the ebike industry it has lead to a slow up take in the market due to the inherint problem with manufacturing in the Far East.
