What maintenance is needed with an e-bike?

As with any bike, you need to keep it in good condition and the good news is the electrical element can be serviced in the same manner. Please contact your local bike shop to book a service. As with any bike, do not wash with a power/ jet washer. Do not use in rain for a prolonged period (i.e. longer than 30mins). In heavy rain situations, place the battery in a back pack to protect against water ingress. Do not store your product in wet weather. We do recommend that your battery is checked every year. If you ride your e-bike in the winter months, please take extra care with tyres and weather conditions;

How heavy is an ebike?

E-bikes are heavier than a normal bike, but not by much! The weight is normally between 16kg and 20kg, with the battery weighing an extra 3kg.

What actually is an electric bike, and how do they work?

Electric Bikes consist of a modified or custom bicycle frame with pedals but include an electric motor, usually in the form of a hub motor, connected to the rear wheel. They allow a rider to either pedal the bike or leverage the power of a battery and motor drive system. Steering, brakes and gears all work as you’d expect on a traditional bicycle. E-bikes help you pedal uphill and face inclines much more easily, and can go up to a maximum of 15 mph on the flat. They can also provide a fantastic mode of transport for those with mobility issues. Overall they just significantly reduce the amount of exertion involved in cycling, especially if you're travelling short distances (which means you can use the electric motor a lot without running out of power). An e-bike (electric bike) has the same components as a standard bicycle, but with battery assisted power. This means that you can cycle with power assistance when needed. You pedal, and the battery supplies an automatic power boost. Three elements make up an e-bike- A battery that you can charge direct into the wall socket like any household device. A motor that provides the power to match your pedalling, and is responsive to your cornering, breaking and speed. A dashboard that provides information on battery level, speed and on/ off switch.

Can I ride my e-bike on a cycle path/ road/ cycle track?

Yes, anywhere you can ride a bike, you can ride an e-bike. Our e-bikes are road legal, and can be used on cycle paths. Remember, that means staying safe - wearing a cycle helmet and using a light at night. Care for other road users and being a responsible cyclist applies to us e-bikers too.

What is the maximum speed of an e-bike?

In Europe, an E-bike can have a maximum power of 250 watts, assisting the E-Bike to a maximum speed of 25 km/h (15 miles per hour). The speed is dictated by the rider, and its an assist to your cycling- you control the pace.
